Zamfara ADC: Mahdi Aliyu Accuses Party of Substituting His Name as Gubernatorial Candidate.
Alhaji Mahdi Aliyu Mohammed, who claims to have won the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship primary election in Zamfara State, has accused the party of substituting his name with that of Bilyamnu Shinkafi as its candidate for the 2027 general elections.
Mohammed alleged that he won the party's governorship primary held on May 22, 2026, but the ADC submitted Shinkafi's name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) instead of his.
In a statement issued as the ADC governorship candidate for the 2027 general elections in Zamfara State, Mohammed said he was issued INEC Form EC9 after the primary election, which he completed and returned to the party for onward submission to the electoral commission.
He, however, alleged that the party failed to submit his name to INEC and instead presented Shinkafi, whom he claimed was neither a member of the ADC nor a participant in the primary election.
The development, according to Mohammed, prompted him to approach the court to seek redress over what he described as an alleged violation of the party's electoral process.
He further claimed that court processes had been served on the party and Shinkafi for more than two months, but neither had filed a defence in the case.
Mohammed also alleged that some individuals within the party, led by a former state Attorney-General, were attempting to manipulate documents intended to be presented as evidence in their defence.
He claimed that letters had been drafted, backdated and submitted to INEC to suggest that Shinkafi participated in the primary election, contrary to the report of the exercise obtained from INEC and already submitted to the court.
The ADC chieftain warned that any attempt to present allegedly falsified documents before the court would attract complaints to the relevant security agencies, INEC and the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee for investigation and appropriate action.
He said those allegedly involved in such actions, including their collaborators, should be held accountable if any wrongdoing is established.
Mohammed maintained that a political party aspiring to lead the state should uphold democratic principles and refrain from actions that could undermine the credibility of its primary elections.
He expressed hope that reason and common sense would prevail, urging all parties involved to respect the judicial process and allow the court to determine the dispute.
