Zamfara NDC Condoles Victims of Talata Mafara, Bungudu Attacks, Calls for Decisive Action Against Banditry

The Zamfara State chapter of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), under the leadership of Alhaji Surajo Garba Maikatako, has expressed deep condolences to the families and communities affected by the recent terrorist attacks in Talata Mafara and Bungudu Local Government Areas of the state.

In a statement signed by the party's Publicity Secretary, Alkassim Mustapha Kayatawa, the NDC said it received with profound shock and sorrow the reports of the killing of innocent farmers in Sauna and Ruwan Gora communities of Talata Mafara Local Government Area.

According to the statement, the victims were allegedly attacked and killed by armed bandits while several others sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The party sympathised with the bereaved families and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured.

The NDC also condemned the abduction of the Chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area during a separate attack, in which the chairman's security personnel, including two police officers and two members of the vigilante group, were killed while defending him.

The party described the attacks as barbaric and unacceptable, saying the continued killing of innocent citizens and the targeting of community leaders and security personnel pose a serious threat to peace, security and development in Zamfara State.

The NDC called on the Federal Government, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Zamfara State Government under Governor Dauda Lawal, to take immediate, decisive and comprehensive measures to end banditry and restore lasting peace across the state. It noted that ensuring the safety of lives and property remains the constitutional responsibility of government at all levels.

The party further urged both governments to move beyond promises by implementing proactive and sustainable strategies capable of dismantling terrorist networks operating in the state. It also prayed for Almighty Allah to grant the deceased eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, comfort the bereaved families with the strength to bear the loss, and grant the injured a speedy recovery.

The SARMAAN Project has reached 15.76 million unique children aged 1–59 months across ten northern states in Nigeria between 2024 and 2026, administering over 26 million doses of Azithromycin in targeted interventions aimed at reducing preventable childhood illnesses and deaths.
