Shinkafi Petitions IGP, DSS Over Alleged Defamatory Publications Against Yari

Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate what he described as libelous and defamatory publications targeting Senator Abdulaziz Yari.

Shinkafi, who is the Executive Director of the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, alleged that Jackson Ude published false claims against Senator Yari, as well as references involving the APC leadership, Nigeria’s First Lady Remi Tinubu, and the Presidency.

In a statement, Shinkafi who is an APC chieftain and former governorship candidate in Zamfara State said he has engaged Dexter Law Firm to formally write the Inspector-General of Police and the DSS Director-General.

The petition calls for a thorough investigation into what he described as “persistent malicious publications” allegedly disseminated through online platforms including Point Blank, Tracknews NG, and Akelicious.

The group accused Ude and the platforms of cyberbullying and defamation of character, insisting that the publications were designed to tarnish the reputation of Senator Yari. It further urged security agencies to invoke the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act 2024 in tracing the sources and intent of the claims.

According to the petition, specific reports published on April 16 and April 18, 2026, by Akelicious and Tracknews NG respectively, contained allegations accusing Senator Yari of financial inducement to influence political outcomes—claims Shinkafi described as “false, malicious, and unfounded.”

The group demanded that Jackson Ude and the publishers of the mentioned platforms be invited by relevant authorities to substantiate their allegations with credible evidence.

Shinkafi maintained that the publications are injurious to the character of Senator Yari and constitute a deliberate attempt to damage his long-standing reputation. He emphasized that individuals and organizations must be held accountable for the dissemination of unverified and harmful information.
