Zamfara Governor’s Defection to APC a Homecoming — Party Chieftain Sarkinfawa


A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Hon. Sha’ayau Sarkinfawa, has described the defection of Governor Dauda Lawal from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC as a homecoming.

Sarkinfawa, who serves as Coordinator of the Constituency Office of Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar in the Zamfara West Senatorial District, stated this while speaking with journalists in Gusau on Monday.

He noted that the National Secretariat of the APC has fixed Tuesday, March 24, for the official reception of the governor into the ruling party.

According to him, the reception will be conducted by Vice President Kashim Shettima alongside the national leadership of the APC, with the support of former governors of the state.

Sarkinfawa described Governor Lawal’s decision to join the APC as historic, saying it would enhance collaboration between Zamfara State and the Federal Government toward accelerated development.

He added that the governor’s defection would strengthen unity, promote peace and stability, and address political divisions within the state.

The APC chieftain further expressed confidence that the development would boost the party’s chances in the 2027 general elections, noting that the existing political structure built by Senator Yari would be reinforced by the governor’s entry into the party.

He called on party leaders at the state, local government, and ward levels to remain united and work collectively for the progress of the APC, while also urging residents to continue supporting the governor in efforts to tackle security challenges and drive development across Zamfara State.

The SARMAAN Project has reached 15.76 million unique children aged 1–59 months across ten northern states in Nigeria between 2024 and 2026, administering over 26 million doses of Azithromycin in targeted interventions aimed at reducing preventable childhood illnesses and deaths.
