APC Chieftain, Wamban Shinkafi, Welcomes Governor Lawal’s Defection
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State, Dr. Abdullahi Wamban Shinkafi, has welcomed the decision of the state governor, Dauda Lawal, to join the ruling party, describing the development as a step that will strengthen the political landscape of the state.
Dr. Wamban Shinkafi made the remarks during a press briefing in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, shortly after breaking the Ramadan fast with members of the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front.
He said the recent political developments in the state have altered previous political calculations and created a new direction for governance and party unity.
The APC chieftain described the governor’s decision to join the party as a welcome development that would strengthen the party and promote political stability in the state.
According to him, members of the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front have accepted the governor’s defection wholeheartedly, noting that it would open a new chapter in the political development of Zamfara State.
Dr. Wamban Shinkafi, however, alleged that he and members of his political movement had faced intimidation, harassment, and threats in the course of their political activities.
He claimed that some individuals were allegedly treating the party as their personal property, warning that no single individual should attempt to dominate or intimidate other critical stakeholders within the political space.
The APC stalwart maintained that he would not be deterred by threats, stressing that his long years of political experience had prepared him to face challenges.
He explained that he had been involved in Nigeria’s political struggle for about 19 years and had contested the governorship position four times, adding that his experience had strengthened his resolve to continue contributing to democratic development.
Dr. Wamban Shinkafi also called on politicians in Zamfara State to promote unity, mutual respect, and inclusiveness within the political system for the overall progress of the state.
He reaffirmed the commitment of members of the Wamban Shinkafi Democratic Front to continue supporting democratic ideals and active political participation at both the state and national levels.
